I recently made the transition from being a student, where I had the freedom to wear whatever I wanted, to working full-time in an office where I find my choice for clothing much more restrictive. One of my constant struggles is making corporate wear fun and exciting. For me, there is nothing worse than waking up at 6am to get ready for work, and having to throw on a pair of black dress pants – IT IS JUST SO BORING, and really doesn’t motivate me to start my day.
I was so excited when I found these lace overlay ankle pants from Express that work as a great alternative to black dress pants. I love the lace detail of the pant as it adds a really pretty feminine touch. When styling, I kept the blouse and shoes neutral because I wanted the pants to be the focal point of the outfit. I completed the look with a navy blazer, and my also navy favourite handbag.
I bought these pants back in the fall, and they are no longer in stock at Express – however I found some options to get a similar look. This version from ASOS includes full lace detailing, Loft has a great option for petites, and if you are looking for something more subtle try this style from Ann Taylor.
